Session- Elders
Why They Exist:
The aim of the Session is to ensure the congregation is led with wisdom, faith, and accountability, following Christ’s teachings and the Presbyterian form of church government. Their leadership helps the church fulfill its mission and serve its members and the wider community.
What It Looks Like:
The work of the Session typically includes monthly meetings to discuss church business, review finances, approve events and programs, and support staff and ministries. Elders may also serve on committees, represent the church in the community, and mentor new members. Their efforts balance spiritual care with practical governance.
What They Do:
Our goal is to provide spiritual leadership, oversight, and governance for the congregation.

Mission & Outreach
They aim to guide the life and mission of the church, from worship and education to outreach and church property.
Ministry & Staff Support
The Session also supports staff and other ministries, ensuring the congregation is nurtured and spiritually guided.

Word from the Elders:
The Elders of Jerome First Presbyterian are blessed to serve the congregation and would love for others to prayerfully consider joining the 2027 team.
The worthwhile role of being an Elder…
Spiritual Impact and Influence- Elders play a central role in the spiritual health and direction of the congregation. Through shepherding, prayer, teaching, and discernment, elders have meaningful influence on the faith formation of individuals and the church.

Opportunity for Deep Ministry- The role allows elders to engage personally with members through visitation, prayer for the sick, mentoring leaders, and pastoral care, fostering deep and lasting relationships within the church community.

Shared Leadership and Discernment- Serving on Session provides the opportunity to lead collaboratively with other elders, seeking God’s guidance together in governance, mission, and vision-setting for the congregation.

Theological Growth and Teaching- Elders are expected to guard doctrinal purity and be “able to teach,” which encourages continued theological learning, spiritual maturity, and confidence in articulating the faith. Currently the Elders are reading, Life Together by Dietrich Bonhoeffer to explore how to foster an Authentic Christian Community.

Central Role in Prayer- Prayer is emphasized as a core responsibility, allowing elders to participate deeply in intercessory ministry for the congregation, staff, and those in need.
